How to save money when you get axed from work!

Well today, I, the coupon cutie, got the pink slip. It was actually really strange the way it happened. I get to work after a restless night, I sit down to eat my energy kitchen breakfast sandwich and I see an email pop up on my outlook around 9:45am from the head of human resources and it says something like: IMPORTANT MEETING in the 7th floor boardroom at 10am (TODAY) your attendance is required. So naturally I'm like wtf. I thought it was directed at me personally, so I assumed hmm I am getting fired...then I hear chitter chattering among my coworkers "did you hear that? did you get that email?" blah blah. So I am confused. Normally they don't fire people in groups. After 4 years at my company I know they fire on Wednesdays and you usually receive a phone call at or around 12:30. This wasn't the case. So anyway enough yapping. I go downstairs to the boardroom and I see three big guys from HR sitting there and one other supervisor sitting and chatting with them. Slowly other people start to trickle in, 5 in which were in my group and who I've worked closely with. There was a handful that I didn't know...so then the Head of HR starts a speech about how the company has been suffering, losing a lot of money and clients etc. How they have tried to cut costs by eliminating company parties, and gifts and supplies (it got to the point where you had to ask for a pencil)--however their cutting back was not enough and they were forced to analyze billable hours and work availability and they had to let go a certain percentage of the staff..We (my self and the couple of others sitting there) were the "first wave" of people being let go. They offered us a severance package, which they dont usually give to someone at lower levels like myself and they started saying how they would help us find jobs and give letters of recommendation etc. The reason why they did it in a group was to assure us all it was nothing personal and that we did nothing wrong.

I am not ashamed, nor am I saddened. I know that I busted my ass in that company. I was put in sometimes impossible situations. I've seen the good, the bad and the ugly. I've laughed, and boy did I cry. I learned a lot. A weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I went into public accounting for the experience and I got more than that. I made some beautiful friendships. I only cried when I left because I had to say goodbye to those few who have influenced me in such wonderful ways. They stuck up for me, were there for me, they believed in me and they will forever hold a special place in my heart. The work it self; I will not miss.

I see other doors opening for me in the future. I will also continue to use coupons :D

Much Love,

Coupon Cutie
